‘Like a man possessed’…Pundit absolutely loved what £27m Arsenal player did v Brentford yesterday

Arsenal got over the line yesterday against Brentford as a late winner from Kai Havertz sparked amazing scenes inside The Emirates.

A mistake from Aaron Ramsdale had threatened to ruin the day for the Gunners after Declan Rice had once again opened the scoring early on. But Havertz’s late header sealed a huge three points and handed the baton back over to Liverpool and Man City.

Of course, Havertz took plenty of plaudits for his performance and the winning goal. But overall, it was another solid defensive display that laid the groundwork for Arsenal to win this one.

And speaking for NBC Sports, former Premier League midfielder Robbie Mustoe was full of praise for Arsenal’s defenders, especially Brazilian star, Gabriel Magalhaes.

Gabriel Magalhaes like a ‘man possessed’ v Brentford

Speaking about the Arsenal defender, Mustoe admitted he loved how aggressive and emotional Gabriel was.

“Back on the emotion that I did like, was the defenders. I mean Gabriel and Saliba. Gabriel was like a man possessed. Really strong, really aggressive, high fives all over and Ben White came over as well. There’s a real sense of fight there and you’ve got to love that if you’re an Arsenal fan. It’s such an important three points but in a different way,” Mustoe said.

Building blocks of success for Arsenal

Every good title winning team needs a solid base to build from and Arsenal have that in Saliba and Gabriel.

As Mustoe says here, the passion the pair show is off the scale at times and while that can sometimes to be detrimental, it worked a treat v Brentford.

At the end of the game, it was obvious that Arsenal’s defenders had worked hard to keep Brentford out and if not for an Aaron Ramsdale mistake, it would have been another clean sheet.

Arsenal are flying right now and this felt massive against the Bees. £27m man Gabriel, then, was as important as anyone on the pitch.
