Football Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United will have to pay a huge amount of money to convince Brentford to sell Ivan Toney this summer.

Reports claimed just a few days ago that Jesse Marsch wants to sign the Englishman and thinks he’d be the perfect partner for Patrick Bamford at Leeds next season.

Toney had a very impressive campaign in the Premier League last term. The 26-year-old scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 37 games in all competitions, which is a very good return.

Leeds and Toney’s old side Newcastle United are both reportedly keen to sign him this summer, but Brentford will not make it easy for either club to get him in.

Leeds target Ivan Toney will cost a lot of money

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said: “With Brentford, I just can’t see them selling Toney unless a ludicrous offer lands.

“I think he wouldn’t be a bad option at all (at Leeds), if you want somebody to backup Bamford.

“As it stands, Bamford should be fit to start the season. But from his past, we know that like the likelihood of him getting through an entire season is slim.

“So that’d be an interesting one if they were willing to stump up a lot of money.”

Toney would be a great signing for Leeds.

Bamford is the Whites’ main man and rightly so. However, the Englishman has had a torrid time with injuries over the 12 months. He started just seven times in Premier League last season, which is one of the biggest reasons why Leeds struggled so much.

With Raphinha now gone as well, Leeds simply have to bring in a quality forward, who can not only play in place of Bamford but also alongside him.

Toney would be sensational, but he’s going to cost a lot of money this summer and whether Leeds will meet Brentford’s demands remains to be seen.
