Report: Leeds could sign ‘electric’ international trophy-winning striker this summer for just £15m

Leeds United have been linked with Marseille’s Bamba Dieng in recent days.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that the Whites were scouting the 22-year-old.

And Fabrizio Romano claimed Dieng will be leaving Marseille soon, in a boost for the likes of Leeds.

However, Leeds aren’t the only club reportedly in pursuit of Dieng.

As well as Jesse Marsch’s side, the likes of Everton, Newcastle, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Celtic are also apparently keen.

Now, 90Min has reported that Fulham have also joined the race for the Senegal international.

The outlet also claimed that sources told them £15million would be enough to land Dieng this summer.

“He’s skilful in front of goal”

Leeds are apparently eager to bring in a new striker before the transfer deadline.

The Whites currently have Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood as striker options.

And Bamford has had some injury issues in recent years.

Therefore, it makes sense to have more strength in depth up front.

Romano recently told GiveMeSport that “the idea at Leeds is to keep the current squad and to add a striker”.

Dieng would be a great shout for the Whites, a young, extremely talented international striker at a bargain price.

The Senegal international – an Africa Cup of Nations winner – had an encouraging maiden season in France last year.

The ‘skilful’ forward scored seven goals in just 11 league starts, and regularly featured off the bench.

Former Liverpool and Senegal forward El Hadji Diouf has compared Dieng to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba (GFFN).

Drogba disagreed, saying it was a little early for comparisons.

Nonetheless, he still praised Dieng, saying “when I see his performances, I say to myself that he has pep and he’s skilful in front of goal”.

And GFFN wrote that, ‘at 5’8 with electric pace, Dieng’s style can feel more reminiscent of fellow Senegalese forward Sadio Mane’.
