Wolves produced the sort of display last night against Watford that has seen them become contenders for the European slots in the Premier League.

Bruno Lage’s men found their goal scoring touch at Molineux to go along with their sound defensive work, albeit the Hornets’ defence didn’t half help Lage’s side on their way.

The pick of the goals on the night came from the ever-impressive midfielder, Ruben Neves. The Portuguese star scored another excellent goal to put the seal on another fine home performance from Lage’s side. Of course, the worry for Wolves is that Neves might not be with the club much longer. Reports have claimed for some time that Arsenal are keen, and it was only last month that a £35m deal was being touted.

Lage Praises Ruben Neves

Wolves will want to keep Neves. But if he does go, Bruno Lage’s latest comments suggest that the midfielder can indeed become one of the very best in the game. Speaking following last night’s win, the Wolves boss claimed that Neves should be one of the top players.

“What’s so important is Ruben knows what I want for him and what I wish for his career. Ruben should be the top of the top. The pressure for him is to come again on Sunday and make another performance. That’s the way he should be every time. That way he can put our team on a different level,” Lage told Birmingham Live.

“To be on top and to be the top of the top, and I think Ruben can do that, not scoring goals like this every week, but the way he linked the game with the defenders, the way he found players between lines, that’s the Ruben I want every day.”

TBR’s View: Neves Back To His Best

You can see why Arsenal want Ruben Neves, you really can. He has everything in the locker a Premier League midfielder needs. He gets spectacular goals, but away from that, he has all the midfield attributes you want as well.

Good on the ball, tough in the tackle as well, and excellent technically, Neves has the lot. It is little wonder his former boss Nuno Santo called him world-class.

With Neves on this form, then Europe might well be a distinct possibility for Wolves this year. The midfielder is said to be valued by Wolves around the £45m mark.
