'Key hours ahead': Two clubs now fighting to sign 'incredible' defender, Conte wanted him at Spurs - journalist

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte may be about to suffer a blow in his attempts to sign another centre-back, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Inter Milan and Juventus are fighting for the signing of Torino’s Gleison Bremer.

90 Min previously reported that Spurs were set for talks with Italian club Torino over the signing of Bremer.

Conte had even reportedly threatened to sign the Brazilian if Inter didn’t sell Alessandro Bastoni to Spurs earlier in the window.

But now it appears that the North London club may be out of the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, as Fabrizio Romano reports that the two Sere A clubs are ‘fighting’ to sign him.

Romano claims that Inter will meet with Torino and Bremer’s agent today, while submitting a final bid worth £25.4 million plus add-ons.

But another one of Conte’s former teams, Juventus, are looking to hijack a move for the talented defender if Inter can’t agree a deal.

The ‘incredible’ Bremer is attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs for a reason. The Brazilian had a brilliant campaign with Torino last season and won the Serie A defender of the year award.

He made 33 appearances in the league, scoring three times and putting up an assist. His numbers are impressive for a centre-back and his aggressive style is similar to that of Spurs defender Cristian Romero.

At the age of 25, Bremer is arguably coming into his prime years and would have been great singing for Conte.

TBR’s View: Bremer would have suited Conte’s Spurs and added depth at the back

Spurs may regret missing out on Bremer if he makes the switch to either Italian club. While they seem to be prioritising another Alessandro Bastoni or RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, the Torino man would have brought some much-needed quality to Spurs’ backline.

Bremer is comfortable with the ball at his feet and plays very aggressively for a centre-back. The last time Spurs landed a player who had just won the Italian league’s defender of the year award, it worked out pretty well for them, as Romero has shown.

But if the club can somehow land Bastoni or Gvardiol this summer, they will have plenty of options at the back, especially after Clement Lenglet’s arrival.
