Kevin Campbell wants Arsenal to sign Youri Tielemans over Musah
The Gunners, of course, will be looking to pick up where they left off when the Premier League season resumes. Mikel Arteta’s side sit five points clear of the chasing pack.
January is going to be a pivotal month for Arsenal. Certainly, they appear to need a new striker after losing Gabriel Jesus to injury. But there is also a need for a couple more signings.
Campbell would take Tielemans over Musah
And one area which Arsenal seem to be keen to strengthen is in the middle of the park.
There are few players who have been more heavily linked with Arsenal over the last years than Tielemans. And Marca recently claimed that Barcelona believe that he has an agreement in place with another club ahead of his Leicester contract expiring. It remains to be seen which side that is, but he has held talks with the Gunners.
His contract reportedly includes an £86 million release clause. And The Athletic have now reported that he is ready to leave Valencia. Musah, of course, spent much of his youth career on the books at Arsenal.
Tielemans’ stock has fallen since his contract situation became such a strong talking point. Meanwhile, Musah looked really impressive for the US in Qatar.
However, when asked which player he would prefer, Campbell did not hesitate to pick the Leicester City man.
“Tielemans, where we are, we need proven. Musah could be a good signing further forward, maybe the summer. But Tielemans right now,” he told The Highbury Squad.
It will be fascinating to see how Arsenal approach the window. Previously, they would have opted for the player with the greater potential – even if they lost out in the short-term.
Now however, they have a genuine opportunity to win the Premier League title. So Edu and Arteta must be tempted to look at the signings who will have that immediate impact.
