Kalvin Phillips could join Liverpool or Manchester United - journalist

Kalvin Phillips could join Liverpool, with journalist Paul Brown telling Give Me Sport that the Leeds United star is likely to either move to Anfield or join Manchester United.

Phillips could well be on the move this summer. Of course, Leeds will hope that they can remain in the Premier League and hold onto the 26-year-old.

Reports have claimed that contract talks between Leeds and Phillips are now on hold. Liverpool meanwhile, are said to be monitoring developments.

The Reds are not alone in the running. Newcastle and Aston Villa are very keen on Phillips. Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking at a potentially-unthinkable move.

Brown was asked about the prospect of Phillips joining Tottenham as a potential upgrade on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. And he went on to suggest that a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United is likely if Phillips leaves Leeds.

“Kalvin Phillips would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Hojbjerg, I think. I just think Phillips is set for either Liverpool or Manchester United,” he told Give Me Sport.

“I think he’s going to go to one of those two clubs; it seems like they’ve done the groundwork there and that if he leaves Leeds, it’s going to be a straight choice between those two.”

Leeds fans will want to keep Phillips for as long as possible. He is an ‘amazing‘ player and replacing him has been impossible for a number of years.

But there are certain circumstances where he would leave with the blessing of a lot of supporters. And a move to Liverpool would possibly be one – particularly if the alternative is heading to Old Trafford.

Phillips would damage his relationship with fans beyond repair if he joined Manchester United. It seems an unnecessary option with Erik ten Hag inheriting such a poor side and there being so much interest in Phillips.

Joining Liverpool would present the England international with the chance to join one of the world’s best sides.

So if Phillips is going to leave Leeds, and the choice is between Liverpool and Manchester United, every fan will implore him to move to Merseyside.
