Newcastle United have been linked with Todd Cantwell over the past few weeks.
However, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has now claimed he’s “unlikely” to join the Magpies this month.
Earlier this month, Sky Sports claimed the Magpies had set their sights on Cantwell.

As well as Newcastle, another Premier League club was apparently eyeing the £15million-rated Norwich gem.
Admittedly, the Magpies have more pressing issues in terms of where they need to strengthen.
Newcastle are in dire need of bolstering their defensive ranks, with a new centre-back potentially on the cards.
Therefore, a creative attacking player may not be the Magpies’ priority at present.
Now, Downie has told GiveMeSport that, while Newcastle were indeed eyeing Cantwell, a move for him isn’t likely.
“The noises we’re hearing is that Cantwell is now unlikely to happen,” he said.
“I think there was an interest in the player. Cantwell would’ve been a purchase I think at about £15m.”
“He’s just a wonderful player”
Cantwell was previously deemed one of the top youngsters in English football.
In November 2019, Alan Shearer said Cantwell’s performance against Everton “had everything”.
And last year, Dean Ashton said: “He was incredible (when I first saw him).
“The way he was drifting past players. His speed of thought and his awareness.
“He’s just a wonderful player.”
However, the 23-year-old has fallen out of favour at his current club.
Cantwell has started just two Premier League games under head coach Dean Smith.
He has made eight appearances in the league this season, but hasn’t yet registered a goal or an assist.
Cantwell’s contract is up in the summer, but Norwich have the option to extend for a further year.
