Sky Sports reporter claims Newcastle want to sign 'incredible' PL midfielder
Newcastle United have a busy January transfer window ahead of them.
The Magpies can finally flex their financial muscles, but must do so with urgency and accuracy.
Not only are Newcastle languishing in the Premier League relegation zone, but their ranks have been depleted.
There has been plenty of speculation linking Newcastle with a myriad of players.
Now, Sky Sports have claimed that the Magpies have set their sights on Todd Cantwell.
As well as Newcastle, another Premier League club is reportedly eyeing the Norwich midfielder.
“We now know that Newcastle and one other Premier League club are interested in Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell,” said Mike Wedderburn.
“We’ve been told here at SSN it would require about £15m to £20m pounds for Norwich to consider selling the player.”
Cantwell earned plenty of praise in previous years, but has fallen out of favour this season.
Alan Shearer is one who previously lauded the 23-year-old.
In November 2019, he said Cantwell’s performance against Everton “had everything”.
And last year, Dean Ashton said: “He was incredible (when I first saw him).
“The way he was drifting past players. His speed of thought and his awareness.
“He’s just a wonderful player.”
However, Cantwell has started just two Premier League games under head coach Dean Smith.
He has made eight appearances in the league this season, but failed to register a goal or an assist.
Cantwell’s contract is up in the summer, but Norwich have the option to extend for a further year.
