Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is Newcastle United’s ‘dream signing’.

The Magpies are looking for a new striker this summer, and it really did look like Hugo Ekitike would be the one to move to St James’ Park. However, just like in January, that move collapsed.

Eddie Howe is still looking around for a new number nine and plenty of names have been linked. The biggest name, however, is Osimhen, who is among the best strikers of his age in the world at the moment.

That move is extremely unrealistic this summer, but he’s still apparently the Magpies’ ‘dream signing’.

Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now. Arsenal and Tottenham were rumoured to be interested in signing him, while Newcastle themselves are said to have been in the race too.

When asked about the truth behind the rumours linking Osimhen with Newcastle, O’Rourke said: “Dream signing!

“It would be a real statement signing. We’re still really to see a huge marquee signing for Newcastle since the change of ownership, obviously did some good business in January and doing some good deals this summer as well.

“But, someone like a Victor Osimhen would be a marquee signing because he’s probably among the top strikers in Europe right now with a host of clubs chasing his signature.”

Osimhen really is a magnificent player.

The 23-year-old, despite a season hampered with injuries and illnesses, scored 18 goals and provided six assists for Napoli in all competitions last campaign.

He would be a fantastic addition to most sides in the world, and it’s no surprise that Newcastle, now under extremely wealthy owners, are dreaming of signing the Nigerian forward.

However, Osimhen will reportedly cost at least £86 million this summer, which may just be beyond Newcastle’s current transfer budget.
