Reported Arsenal target Victor Osimhen starred for Nigeria in their African Cup Of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe at the Stade Adrar in Morocco last night.

The Napoli hit man is one of the best strikers of his age in the world. He has been brilliant in Italy since he moved there two years ago having scored 28 goals and provided nine assists in 62 appearances.

Even in an injury-hit campaign last season, Osimhen scored 18 goals and provided six assists in all competitions. That is a sensational return for a 23-year-old, and he has now carried that form to the international stage as well.

Arsenal-linked Osimhen scored four goals and picks up two assists

Sao Tome aren’t the greatest side in the world by any means, and Nigeria were expected by everyone to pick up a comfortable victory before the game even began.

However, not many people expected them to score 10 goals. Unsurprisingly, Osimhen was the star of the show.

The Napoli man opened the scoring and picked up two assists before half-time. He then scored three more in the second half in a truly dominant display as Nigeria picked up a 10-0 win.

Last night was definitely one of Osimhen’s easier games, but his stock would’ve gone up after his six-goal contribution nevertheless.

The Gunners had a bid rejected a day earlier

On Monday, reports from Italy revealed that striker-less Arsenal had made an attempt to sign Osimhen.

It was claimed that the Gunners tabled a £51.2 million for the Nigerian, who joined Napoli from Lille for a club-record £70 million just under two years ago (BBC). Unsurprisingly, the Partenopei did not like what they saw and rejected the bid immediately.

Just a day later, Osimhen, branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Walter Mazzarri, started for Nigeria and contributed to six of his side’s 10 goals, further strengthening the Naples club’s stance.

The report revealed that Napoli are looking for about twice as much as what Arsenal apparently offered earlier this week, which makes it extremely difficult for the Gunners to pull this deal off this summer.
