Journalist says Tottenham will consider signing James Maddison next summer

Football journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will be among the clubs who will consider signing James Maddison from Leicester City next summer.

Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season came to an end last weekend against Arsenal. They lacked ideas in attack and many felt that a top-quality number 10 would truly transform their side. Maddison could well be the one.

Maddison was heavily linked with a move to both Tottenham and Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. The Magpies pushed the hardest, but a move did not materialise.

The £60 million-rated Englishman stayed put and he has been the shining light in what has otherwise been a very dull season for Leicester City. He has scored five goals so far, two of which came just four days ago in the East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest.

Maddison continues to impress everybody and O’Rourke believes Tottenham will surely be among other clubs who will consider signing him at the end of this season.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s a hard deal to do in January, but it’s one to maybe keep an eye on next summer, especially if Leicester are struggling at the wrong end of the table.

“Spurs, I’m sure, will be among a number of clubs looking at Maddison.”

Maddison is up there with the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and it is very likely that he will leave Leicester City at the end of this season.

The 25-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. That means he will have just one year left on his deal next summer, which could make him available for a bargain fee.

A number of top clubs will surely consider signing Maddison next year, but Spurs should really go all out for his signature – irrespective of whether Conte stays at the club or not.

A creative midfielder like Maddison, who guarantees goals and assists from the middle of the park, is exactly what Spurs are missing at the moment. He could completely transform their side, but whether Tottenham can beat other interested clubs for his signature remains to be seen.
