'He's a terrific player': Danny Murphy thinks £60m player would be brilliant signing for Newcastle United

Danny Murphy has been speaking on TalkSPORT today and thinks James Maddison would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle United

The Magpies were linked with a move for Maddison over the summer and the Daily Mail reported that Newcastle saw two bids knocked back for the Leicester man

Eddie Howe was keen to bolster his squad during the transfer window but failed to land an attacking midfielder. And a January swoop for the £60 million-rated Maddison has gathered pace again in recent days.

The Chronicle’s Aaron Stokes claimed today that Newcastle are more likely to push for Maddison in January over his teammate Youri Tielemans

And now the Magpies have been told that signing Maddison would be an excellent bit of business.

Murphy thinks Maddison would be brilliant for Newcastle

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Mills spoke about Maddison on the radio station today and heaped praise on the Foxes midfielder

He said: “He’s a terrific player. He gives them [Newcastle] something they haven’t got. He is one of the most creative players in the Premier League.

“He makes things happen, he’s courageous on the ball. He’s got an eye for a pass and plays free.

“I like Maddison because he plays free. He never hides away, he’s happy making mistakes to try and make things happen.”

Murphy is right by saying Maddison could offer Newcastle something a little bit different in the middle of the park. Howe’s side have got off to a decent start to the new season but have struggled to score goals.

Maddison would fit the bill perfectly for the Magpies and complement Bruno Guimaraes in Howe’s midfield.

The 25-year-old has produced brilliant numbers for the Foxes in the Premier League and enjoyed his best season to date during the last campaign.

Newcastle will undoubtedly face competition for Maddison’s signature, especially with his contract running down. But the club should do everything within their power to land the Leicester man in January.
