Alasdair Gold has claimed in a Q&A on Football London that there have been suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is a fan of Tomas Soucek, but cast doubt over the likelihood of Spurs making a move for the West Ham star.
There is plenty of anticipation and excitement ahead of Conte’s first summer at the helm in North London. Tottenham fans are hoping for big things in the window given the progress they have already made under the Italian.
They have been linked with a raft of names, including some midfielders. Reports have claimed that they want the likes of Ruben Neves and Nicolo Zaniolo. But perhaps, Tottenham may also look closer to home.
Soucek has been outstanding throughout his time at West Ham. He has already brought up a century of appearances for the Irons ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final.
And Gold has hinted that there may be some interest from Tottenham in the Czech Republic international. He did however, add that any sort of move looks really unlikely.
“As for Tomas Soucek, there are suggestions that Conte is a fan but unless there’s an unexpected departure this summer then Spurs seem pretty well stocked for defensive central midfielders with Bentancur, Hojbjerg and Skipp,” he told Football London.
West Ham unlikely to sell potential Tottenham target Soucek amid Declan Rice uncertainty
Of course, he is not the only West Ham midfielder being linked with a move away. Declan Rice has apparently rejected a new contract at the London Stadium. And he could potentially be on the move in 2023.
So with that in mind, it is unlikely West Ham would consider any bids for Soucek anytime soon, particularly if Tottenham are the team who make such an offer.
