Journalist says Denzel Dumfries is unlikely to join Tottenham in January

Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Denzel Dumfries is unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window amid reports that Spurs have enquired about the Dutchman.

Dumfries has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, particularly since the start of the World Cup. And it seems that Antonio Conte’s men are in the mix for a deal.

Right wing-back has been a problem for Tottenham this season. And 90min reported that Spurs have made an enquiry about signing Dumfries with Inter willing to sell.

Dumfries unlikely to join Tottenham

Unfortunately for Tottenham, Jones has suggested that the signs are not positive. The journalist does not see Dumfries joining Conte’s men next month.

“I don’t see it as one that’s happening in January. I mentioned this to a couple of people recently and haven’t had particularly positive messages back that it’s expected to happen at all,” he told Give Me Sport.

Asking price likely to be a problem

His asking price may perhaps explain why a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is looking less likely.

Remarkably, Calciomercatoweb claimed that Arsenal are in the running to sign Dumfries. And they are ready to meet the Nerazzurri’s demands next summer.

Inter apparently want around £56 million for Dumfries – who has been labelled ‘amazing‘. And the Gunners are apparently ready to make a bid involving a £34.5 million fee and Takehiro Tomiyasu going the other way for Dumfries.

In truth, it is incredibly hard to imagine Arsenal making such a bid. Not only has Dumfries not had a great time at San Siro, but you cannot imagine that the Gunners value him at nearly three times what they would want for Tomiyasu.

But, you can certainly see Inter wanting a lot more for Dumfries than a few weeks ago.

And with Spurs still having three right-backs on the books, Fabio Paratici may feel that spending big on Dumfries should be lower down the priority list right now.
