Journalist now says Tottenham are no longer trying to sign ‘exceptional’ player this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have now reportedly ended talks with Bayer Leverkusen over signing Edmond Tapsoba.

Journalist Dan Kilpatrick was speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast about the Burkina Faso international.

The start of the Premier League season is just days away and Ange Postecoglou has several selection decisions to make.

He looks set to have star Harry Kane available as the 30-year-old appears to be no closer to joining Bayern Munich.

In midfield, he has a plethora of options, including Oliver Skipp who scored a brace against Barcelona yesterday.

However, most Spurs fans will be most concerned about who is starting in Postecoglou’s back four against Brentford.

Ben Davies has spent most of pre-season alongside Cristian Romero at centre-back.

New signing Micky Van de Ven could be thrown straight into the action after his move was confirmed yesterday.

However, Edmond Tapsoba is unlikely to be an option as Tottenham have now ended talks with the ‘exceptional’ player.

Spurs will have to turn to another defender to complete their summer spending.

Tottenham have ended talks over Tapsoba

Sharing the latest on the centre-back situation at Spurs, Kilpatrick said: “Well, I think Spurs have ended talks with Edmond Tapsoba, he was the other player they’ve been strongly linked with this summer.

“I think Tosin of Fulham has been a target for a while, there’s been a lot of talk about Clement Lenglet.

“There was some suggestion in the Spanish media that the clubs would use that opportunity to discuss a new deal for Lenglet, I think he would very much be a back-up.”

Tapsoba would be a brilliant addition at Tottenham, but it’s understandable why they have now reportedly ended talks.

He was likely to cost a similar amount to Van de Ven and Spurs have already spent a fair amount this summer.

Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro’s deals have been made permanent this summer, while James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have also arrived.

A cheaper option such as Lenglet or Tosin looks the most likely outcome right now.

Although another defender has also entered the fray if Spurs can move on several other players.
