Jose Enrique has responded extremely positively to transfer speculation that Liverpool are interested in Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak.
Spanish newspaper Notices de Gipuzkoa, as relayed by The Boot Room, claims that Liverpool are keen on the 21-year-old.
It is understood that the Reds view him as someone that can be a long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino.
However, Spanish La Liga club Sociedad boast a £60million release clause on Isak’s current deal with them. There are still three years left on that contract.
Isak is well known with Spanish audiences after the centre-forward scored 17 La Liga goals last season. But, his reputation is going up a whole new level right now.
The physical centre-forward is a key player for national side Sweden at Euro 2020.
He’s not scored in his country’s opening two group matches, but has made a big, positive impact leading the line.
Jose Enrique likes Liverpool target Isak
Enrique, who is a former Liverpool player, wants to see Isak move to Anfield with all the transfer rumours that are surfacing.
He’s described him on Instagram as a “top player” in a review of the Swedish striker.
“I know him very well because he plays for Real Sociedad. He is a top player, definitely, I will sign him. And he’s really young so hopefully we can go for him if we can’t go for [Erling] Haaland or someone like that,” Enrique said.
There are so many areas of Isak’s game to like because he can do a bit of everything. Therefore, it’s easy to see how he could end up being a like-for-like replacement with Firmino.
It will be interesting to see what happens for him this summer once the Euros is over. There is no doubt he looks like a Premier League player on paper with his pace and power.
