Jorginho ran from the bench straight to one Arsenal teammate to celebrate at full-time yesterday

Jorginho ran from the bench straight to one Arsenal teammate at full-time on Saturday as the Gunners went top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Brentford.

Mikel Arteta’s men claimed a big victory, with Kai Havertz scoring late on to secure the three points. Before that, the Bees had given Arsenal a decent scare.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal were largely dominant. And they will feel aggrieved that they did not get a penalty during the second-half. However, Havertz was very lucky to stay on the pitch after a clear dive before his winner. And Brentford did have a few good chances themselves.

Jorginho ran straight to Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal win

Thankfully for Arsenal, Aaron Ramsdale was able to step up whenever he was tested after the break. Of course, Ramsdale went into half-time off the back of a big error which led to Brentford’s equaliser.

But Ramsdale more than made amends afterwards. And it seems that his teammates were delighted to see the England international recover from that error.

Journalist Sam Dean posted on X that Jorginho flew off the bench to go straight to Ramsdale at full-time, rather than Havertz…

Possibly goalkeeper’s final appearance for Gunners

Ramsdale’s last two Premier League appearances have come against Brentford, with David Raya ineligible. In both games, he has been caught in possession. And this time, he was punished.

Perhaps neither incident happens if Ramsdale is playing regularly. But you would imagine that his lack of game-time did him no favours. He may have needed a split-second longer than Raya would have done to assess his options.

But it was fantastic to see Ramsdale prove himself in the second-half. It would be a surprise if he remained at Arsenal next season after what has gone on this year.

Raya is now the undisputed number one. And nothing Ramsdale could have done in yesterday’s game would have changed that.

So the time has surely come to move on.
