Jhon Duran sends wordless message to Aston Villa fans on Twitter after agreeing £18m move

Aston Villa once again snuck a transfer under the radar yesterday when they signed Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire.

The Colombian international signed for £18m from the MLS side, and looks set to join straight up with the first team.

The statement from Aston Villa said: “Aston Villa can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Chicago Fire for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old striker, Jhon Durán.

“The deal is subject to the player passing a medical, agreeing personal terms and obtaining the necessary work visa.”

Duran has had a brilliant season in the MLS, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 27 appearances.

Although the Fire didn’t have the best campaign, Duran stood out, even winning a Player of the Week award.

Despite still being a teenager, Duran already has over 50 senior appearances to his name.

Making his debut in Colombia just after his 15th birthday, Duran has been on plenty of club’s radars for some time.

However, Aston Villa won the race to sign Duran, and now he’s sent a message to the club’s fans.

Duran sends message to Villa fans

Taking to Twitter, Duran posted a lion emoji next to two hearts in Aston Villa’s colours.

It’s not the first time Duran has used social media to send a message in recent days.

He sent a cryptic tweet just before his move was made permanent that very much went under the radar.

Liverpool were previously credited with interest, but it’s a move to Villa Park that’s eventually happened.

Villa fans will remember the last time the club did some business that went completely under the radar.

Danny Ings was signed from Southampton in 2021, taking virtually every Aston Villa fan by surprise.

Duran could play as a centre-forward, but was mainly played on the left by Chicago Fire.

Colombia missed out on the World Cup, but Duran was in their squad when they took on Paraguay in a friendly in November.

To already be an established international as a 19-year-old is a very impressive feat.

Villa fans will be hoping Duran can send a message to his international manager with his performances for his new club.
