Jamie Redknapp is absolutely convinced that Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero will become one of the best central defenders in the world in a few years’ time.
Spurs signed the talented Argentine on loan from Atalanta last year. He impressed at the start of last season, but then suffered an unfortunate injury. However, he was incredible after his return, and Redknapp clearly is a huge fan.
Cristian Romero will become one of the best defenders in the world
Romero played 30 times for Tottenham in all competitions last season, and he was fantastic. His game went to a whole new level following Antonio Conte’s arrival, and he’s now Spurs’ most important defender.
Reports revealed this week that clubs from the Premier League and Europe have taken note of Romero’s potential after his sensational debut season. However, it’s Tottenham who are leading the race to sign him for £41 million thanks to the ‘option to buy’ clause included in his contract.
Spurs will surely wrap up that deal very soon, and Redknapp has predicted that the 24-year-old will become one of the best central defenders in world football at Tottenham.
He said on the Sky Sports Football podcast, as quoted by HITC: “Romero is going to be one of the best central defenders in the world, there is no doubt about it.
“He can be a bit rash, make bad decisions, win balls when he can’t. But he is going to learn from Conte, a fantastic signing.”

TBR View:
Romero really does have the potential to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League in a few years’ time.
The Argentine, once of Juventus, was excellent last season. His performances earned him rave reviews from many big names in the game, and Spurs fans absolutely love him.
The 24-year-old is good in possession and aggressive without it. He likes a crunching tackle and is never afraid to get stuck in to win the ball back for his side. To add to that, his positional discipline is excellent too and that will only get better in the coming years.
Romero definitely has what it takes to reach the very top, and with Conte’s help, he should get there soon.
