Kyle Walker has had his say on his decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur to join Manchester City in the summer of 2017.

The Englishman joined Spurs from Sheffield United all the way back in 2009. He spent eight years at the club before moving up north to the Etihad, where he has become a real winner.

Tottenham, sadly, are still struggling to win any silverware. They have come close on a few occasions over the last few years, but they always fell at the final hurdle.

Walker, who has experienced that feeling while he was at Spurs before, absolutely hated it, but thankfully for him, he knows what it feels like to win silverware every single season now.

Kyle Walker: I hated not winning trophies at Tottenham

In an interview with The Telegraph this week, Walker said: “When I first walked up the Wembley steps to pick up the Carabao Cup [in 2018 with Manchester City], it was a relief, but I got the addiction.

“Whereas before, I was normally at the team standing down at the bottom giving the token gesture clap.

“That’s not addictive. You don’t want to do that. It’s the worst position in football I’ve felt where you’re clapping another team that has gone and beaten you and they’re lifting the trophy you dreamt of winning.

“I’d rather just not do it. People may say, ‘Okay, but that’s bad sportsmanship’. Well, I’m here to win. I don’t want to be clapping the winners because I’ve come second.”

When he was at Tottenham, Walker was a part of the losing side in the 2015 Carabao Cup final. Chelsea beat Spurs 2-0 at Wembley thanks to goals from John Terry and Diego Costa.

Walker, branded as ‘fantastic’ by Jamie Carragher, started that game and as he described above, he had to stand on the pitch and applaud Chelsea as they lifted the League Cup and celebrated in front of over 80,000 people.

Since joining Manchester City, Walker has become a winner. He has won three Premier League titles, four League Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shields.

He may well go on to add a couple more trophies this season and Tottenham, sadly, will go yet another campaign without any silverware.
