‘It’s ridiculous’: Jamie O’Hara says 26-year-old Tottenham player is ‘bang average’ and a terrible signing

TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara believes that Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez was a terrible signing.

O’Hara was very critical of his former side after they lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United.

In particular, O’Hara singled out Sanchez for criticism after the Colombian came into the starting line-up for Cristian Romero.

Sanchez was signed in 2017 from Ajax for £42m, a club record fee for Spurs at the time.

His minutes in the first team have slowly fallen off since his debut season at the club, and he’s certainly not first choice under Antonio Conte.

Conte backed him at the start of the season, saying he ‘has everything to be a top defender’.

However, he looked very shaky against Newcastle yesterday, and lost possession ten times.

Normally known for his aerial prowess, he only won two of his six duels in the air.

O’Hara thought Sanchez was ‘bang average’ yesterday, and a terrible signing for the fee Tottenham paid.

Sanchez a terrible Tottenham signing – O’Hara

The former Tottenham midfielder was asked about his side’s performance yesterday on TalkSPORT and didn’t hold back.

“We’ve been found out, the squad’s bang average,” O’Hara said.

“Romero gets injured as well and you have to play (Davinson) Sanchez.

“I don’t know what Sanchez is playing at. I mean, how we paid £45m for him I’ll never know, he’s just an accident waiting to happen.

“I don’t know what he puts in his boot bag, but they’re not football boots, because he’s playing with wellies on.

“Honestly, it’s ridiculous how bang average he is.

“It makes everyone on edge to try and get the ball out and play out from the back, it makes everyone look so bad.

“If you haven’t got Romero and Ben Davies playing, don’t even bother trying to play out from the back.”

Antonio Conte has had to deal with plenty of injuries in key areas this season.

The loss of Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison has forced Conte into a change of formation that doesn’t seem to have paid off.

Losing Romero to injury is a massive blow, the Argentinian is a key figure in Conte’s defence.

He’s also not helped when Hugo Lloris doesn’t have his best game in goal.

Sanchez still has time to prove he wasn’t a terrible signing for Tottenham.

However, he will need to improve his game, especially in possession, to have a chance of becoming first choice under Conte.
