Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told the club’s official website that he is really impressed with Davinson Sanchez and that he can become a top player.

Sanchez has stepped into the Spurs backline for the last two Premier League games after Cristian Romero suffered an injury against Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has now helped Conte’s men keep two clean sheets and has performed well whilst Romero has been sidelined.

And Conte has now praised the defender for his displays and says he can become a top defender.

Conte really impressed with Sanchez

Speaking to Spurs Play following the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest yesterday, Conte said Sanchez needs to remain focused to reach his full potential.

“But for me, Davinson is Patron. For me, he is Patron. I don’t call him Davinson,” he said.

“Patron [Sanchez] has great potential because he has everything to be a top defender. I think he has to always be concentrated, to be focused. Especially when the situation is easy.

“Sometimes, he’s so relaxed that sometimes he can make a mistake. But he’s working very well, I’m really happy despite the absence of Cuti [Cristian Romero].

“He’s performing very well, but he has to continue in this way, to be focused. Today, another clean sheet for the defensive line but good for the whole team.”

Sanchez completed a switch to North London from Dutch giants Ajax back in 2017 for what was at the time a club-record transfer fee of £42 million (The Guardian).

The Colombia international arrived at Spurs after putting in some brilliant displays for Ajax and was seen as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe.

But Sanchez hasn’t quite managed to reach his full potential, despite a promising debut season during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Spurs man has struggled to nail down a place in the team under Conte but has shown he can be a competent back-up option for the Italian.
