'It worked': Frank Lampard has now phoned midfielder and convinced him to join Everton - journalist
Everton are seemingly closing in on West Ham United target Amadou Onana and journalist Santi Aouna claims Frank Lampard phoned the player and convinced him to join the Toffees.
Earlier this week, reports suggested that West Ham were in talks to land the ‘perfect’ Onana but it seems that the player now wants to join Everton.
The Toffees are becoming increasingly confident they will land the 20-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder and a phone call from Lampard may have sealed the deal.
Lampard phoned Onana
West Ham had apparently made an offer worth around £33.5 million for the Belgium international and Lille now expect Everton to match the bid.
In what is a surprising U-turn, Everton now look like they have stolen to march on West Ham for the talented prospect.
Onana has an incredibly high ceiling and has just enjoyed an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 for Lille.
The Red Devils international appeared 32 times in the French league last season and put in some promising displays in the Champions League.
Reports suggested yesterday that staff at Everton really like Onana but Lille’s demands could have been a problem for the Toffees.
But it seems that Lampard is now closing in on beating his old club West Ham to the signing of the midfielder after convincing him to join over the phone.
The Blues are also reportedly closing in on bringing Idrissa Gueye back to the club from Paris Saint-Germain as Lampard looks to re-shape his midfield.
TBR’s View: Onana would be an excellent transfer coup for Lampard
Lampard will be delighted to sign a young midfielder with such huge potential, and it’s a good sign that he has seemingly convinced the player to join them over West Ham.
The Hammers will be playing European football this season whereas Everton only narrowly avoided relegation last season.
So, the fact that Lampard looks like he has convinced the player to join them is a big positive for the club this summer.
