Report: Everton increasingly confident they're going to be able to sign 'very important' player this summer
Everton are increasingly confident they will sign be the ones to sign Belgium international midfielder Amadou Onana.
The Times report that Frank Lampard wants Onana as well as securing a return to Goodison Park for Idrissa Gana Gueye.
And the Toffees look to have moved ahead of their former manager David Moyes at West Ham in the chase to sign the Lille man.
Everton have now matched Lille’s asking price and the deal has moved forward after talks between the clubs yesterday (Wednesday).
Everton confident over signing Onana
And that has all combined to add to the growing confidence at Goodison Park that Everton will now get their man.
For the Nations League matches in June, former Everton boss Roberto Martinez called Onana into his Belgium squad for the first time.
He said: “For Loïs Openda and Amadou Onana, this is the right time to join the squad.
“Onana had a very important role in the youth teams. Also at Lille he has played very important matches in the Champions League in the number six role.”
Everton desperately needed reinforcements in midfield; their transfer business has been slow to get going but is clicking into gear now.
Gueye will bring experience, but he will need the legs of Onana next to him, but that could be an exciting transformation in the Everton midfield.
That is if they get Onana over the line and convert the confidence into getting him to sign on the dotted line.
