Report: Staff at Everton really like £30m player who West Ham are apparently closing in on signing

Everton could push for midfield additions this summer and staff at the club like West Ham United target Amadou Onana, according to the Athletic

Reports have suggested that West Ham are locked in talks with LOSC Lille over the signing of Onana and are pushing to sign the midfielder, with French outlets claiming that the deal was almost done last night.

But it seems that the 20-year-old also has admirers at Goodison Park and that Lille are looking for more than £30 million for the Belgium international.

Everton have added three players to their squad so far this summer after bringing in James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil. But the club are looking to Frank Lampard’s squad even further in the coming weeks as they aim to avoid another relegation battle.

Everton staff like Onana

The Athletic reports that Frank Lampard will try to sign a ‘powerful, box-to-box’ midfielder this summer as the boss looks to add physicality to his side.

Everton are closing in on bringing Paris Saint-Germain’s Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park but the Toffees boss would still like another central midfielder.

And staff at Everton really like Onana but Lille’s asking price of over £30 million is a problem for Everton.

West Ham have already seen a £20 million bid rejected during the current window so it seems that the French side are holding firm on their valuation of the player.

West Ham move seems more likely for Onana

Onana would be a great coup for Everton if they were able to raise the funds to make a move for him, although time appears to be running out.

At just 20 years of age, the youngster has an incredibly high ceiling and is coming off the back of an impressive campaign in Ligue 1.

He made 32 appearances in the French league last season and played eight games in the Champions League, putting in some encouraging displays while doing so.

But it seems that West Ham are much closer to signing Onana at this moment in time, so the Toffees may have to look elsewhere if the Hammers get the deal over the line.
