One of Tim Steidten’s biggest tasks this summer will be to provide Julen Lopetegui with a striker befitting of West Ham United’s ambitions.
David Moyes’ final years in east London were marred by the club’s lack of fire power, even if Jarrod Bowen proved very effective in a central position.
Danny Ings didn’t have the desired impact, to say the least, when he joined from Aston Villa in 2023.
And although he’s been an excellent servant for the club, 34-year-old Michail Antonio has never been a prolific goal-scorer, and certainly isn’t going to dramatically improve his output at this stage of his career.
West Ham need a new number nine, especially given that 19-year-old Divin Mubama also decided to leave the club this summer.
And although Jhon Duran has looked close to joining West Ham, a new target has now emerged for Steidten and his team, Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug.
West Ham target Niclas Fullkrug would be open to joining this summer
Fullkrug really enhanced his reputation at the Euros this summer, a throw-back type centre-forward who is solely interested in scoring goals.
And when dovetailing with Kai Havertz for Germany, the 31-year-old proved that he has what it takes to score goals at any level.

That being said, after West Ham’s interest in Fullkrug was shared on Monday, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now provided a fresh update on the move.
The Hammers have now opened talks with the ‘incredible’ striker, who is open to the idea of a move.
Sheth shared: “West Ham United have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of striker Niclas Fullkrug.
“West Ham are discussing the conditions of a deal. It is understood Fullkrug is open to the move and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.”
Moyes wanted to sign Fullkrug
Of course, at 31-years-old it has to be said that Fullkrug’s arrival may not please all West Ham fans.
The club already has one of the oldest striking departments in the Premier League as mentioned.
And it almost feels as if Lopetegui’s era needs to be earmarked by the arrival of a younger striker, someone who can score goals for the entirety of a four or five-year contract.
All that being said, Moyes recently admitted that he wanted to buy Fullkrug for West Ham when speaking with Alan Shearer during the Euros.
