Jose Enrique has disagreed with what Jamie Carragher said about Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott earlier this week.
The Sky Sports pundit raved about the teenager in an interview with Goal. Carragher labelled Elliott as a ‘really special player’ and even went on to say that he could be Mohamed Salah’s replacement at Liverpool once the Egyptian moves on.
“You have someone really special here, maybe in terms of Mo Salah’s replacement, if that’s the position he plays in. Mo Salah is getting to 30 now and we’re all desperate for him to sign a contract, but whenever Mo Salah goes, maybe you’ve got your ready-made replacement,” Carragher said.
Enrique also believes that Eliott is a ‘special’ player, but he completely disagrees with Carragher’s opinion that the youngster could replace Salah on the right flank.
Jose Enrique: Harvey Elliott is not Mo Salah’s replacement
The Spaniard said on his Instagram: “What Carra said here, I really agree with him in terms of we have a very very special talent in Harvey. I really believe he’s somebody making an impact and is a very, very important player of the squad.
“If you ask me if he’ll be in my starting eleven, he probably will be, on the right side of the midfield because I believe he brings something else.
“But, I’m not sure he’s the replacement of Salah. I still believe we really need someone who can play in the front three, on the right. I know Harvey can play there but I like him a lot on the right side of the holding midfield position.
“I really believe playing in that position suits him because Trent can go (forward) a lot. In Salah’s position, I like someone with a little bit more speed.”

TBR View:
This really is an interesting debate.
Elliott is a phenomenal talent, everybody will agree with that. The teenager has impressed everyone whenever he has played and his goal against Cardiff when he came back was really good to see.
The fantastic youngster can play in midfield and on the right flank. Carragher definitely has a point when says Elliott can develop into a fantastic player on the right-wing, but can he really replace someone as good as Salah?
The Egyptian is arguably the best player in the world at the moment and it won’t be easy for anyone to fill his boots, let alone an 18-year-old.
It will be interesting to see where Elliott will be play once Salah leaves the club.
