‘I was actually told yesterday’: Journalist shares what he’s just heard about Ounahi, amid links with Leeds

Leeds United are already having a busy January transfer window as they look to secure their Premier League status.

A report from journalist Ryan Taylor, via Give Me Sport, has provided an update on potential target Azzedine Ounahi.

The Whites have already signed defender Maximilian Wober from Red Bull Salzburg.

He’s been reunited with Jesse Marsch after they worked together in Austria, and already impressed on his debut.

Marsch is also looking to make a big investment further up the field.

Hoffenheim forward Georginio Rutter has been linked with a move to Elland Road, and personal terms are reportedly already agreed.

Ounahi would be a fantastic addition to Leeds’ midfield, and seriously impressed at the World Cup with Morocco.

Unfortunately, it means that there’s now plenty of interest in his services this month.

Taylor now believes Ounahi is in advanced talks with a club over a potential move.

Sadly, it appears as though that team isn’t Leeds, although they have made a big for the 22-year-old.

Ounahi now in advanced talks to leave Angers

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Taylor has said about Ounahi: “No, to be honest [I don’t think Leeds can pull off a deal]. I know they put in a bid for around about £17.5 million.

“There’s been kind of mixed feelings on this, but I was actually told yesterday that there was a club in advanced talks to sign Ounahi from Angers and he would stay at the club for the rest of the season on loan.

“I don’t know who it is, but there’s been a lot of clubs interested.

“Napoli, weirdly Almeria from La Liga as well, and Marseille are very active in talks with Angers over that.”

Leeds might not be the only Premier League club keeping a close eye on Ounahi.

Ben Jacobs has reported that Tottenham are also keen on bringing in the 22-year-old.

His current side, Angers, are struggling in Ligue 1 right now, and don’t want to lose one of their best players.

They’ve previously suggested that any deal to sign Ounahi involves him being loaned back for the rest of the season.

That’s not a luxury that Leeds can really afford right now, and might be why they ultimately miss out.

The fact that there’s a team in advanced talks with Ounahi suggests someone may have accepted that demand.
