'I know him': Jose Mourinho says he's a huge fan of 'very good player' Tottenham reportedly want to sign
Spurs came very close to signing Amrabat in Antonio Conte’s first transfer window in charge last January but the deal did not get over the line.
Instead, they got Rodrigo Bentancur, so it hardly worked out badly, especially given how the Uruguayan has added goals to his game this season.
But while Bentancur and Uruguay were knocked out in the World Cup group stage, Amrabat helped inspire Morocco to the semi-finals.
Mourinho praises Amrabat
Last night, their historic run came to an end with a 2-0 defeat against France and they will battle Croatia in the third/fourth placed play-off this weekend.
Mourinho told Goal that Amrabat is among the Morocco players he has been impressed by, but that his knowledge of him dates back before the World Cup.
He said: “Amrabat, I know him from Italian football, very good player. So, they have players, a coach and an incredible spirit.
“The coach organised the team very well, starting with 4-3-3, he was able to change during the game to 5-4-1.
“He saw the danger, he saw Portugal accumulating lots of players in finishing areas and he found a way to control the game.
His energy has been absolutely sensational and it looks like he does the work of two players in the heart of midfield.
It was not to be in terms of World Cup glory for Morocco, but Amrabat will soon be back focusing on club football and may be set for a move either in January or the summer.
