Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke handed Mikel Arteta a brand new contract recently and the timing of it really impressed the Gunners boss.

Arteta was appointed as the Arsenal manager in December 2019 after Unai Emery was shown the door. The Spaniard has had to go through a lot over the last three and a bit years, but it has to be said that he is taking the club in the right direction.

The Gunners are now in the driving seat to finish fourth. They are two points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham, and with just four games left to play, they will back themselves to get the job done.

What On Earth Is Going On At Bordeaux?

Things, however, haven’t always been so smooth for Arsenal and Arteta. Only recently, the North Londoners lost three games on the bounce against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton. The Gunners boss has now revealed how the club’s owners and the board showed faith in him after those three defeats.

Mikel Arteta: The Kroenkes offered me a new contract after Arsenal lost three games in a row

Arteta revealed in his press conference yesterday that he got really emotional because the Arsenal board offered him a new deal right after those three consecutive defeats last month.

The Spaniard said, as per Arsenal.com: “The club offered me the contract when we lost three matches (against Palace, Brighton and Southampton). That day, I went like this ‘chapeau’.

“That doesn’t happen in football. That’s a part of what they think, the conversations they have, the belief that they have in myself, the coaching and staff, in what we are doing.

“The people that we have now at the football club and leading this football club. I haven’t ever seen it and I just got emotional when I see it and I said ‘you guys are serious and committed and I’d better push forward’.”

Does Arteta deserve a new contract after what he’s done with such a young squad at Arsenal? Absolutely!

However, we can’t remember a time when a manager has been offered a new deal after losing three consecutive games against sides who are inferior in quality.

For the Korenkes to tell Arteta they want him to stay at the club after such a disappointing few weeks shows that they truly believe in him. That would’ve surely boosted the Arsenal boss’ confidence and it is no surprise that the Gunners have won three games on the bounce since.

With Arteta’s future now secured, Arsenal’s complete focus will be on the next four games. All they have to do is match Tottenham’s results to get back into the Champions League – it definitely won’t be easy, but they should back themselves to do it.
