Nicolas Pepe is very much out of the Arsenal reckoning.
The £72m attacker was the club’s record signing for a long time before the arrival of Declan Rice, and while he does remain on the books at the Emirates, he’s nowhere near Mikel Arteta’s plans.
It’s unclear what is going to happen with Pepe this summer. There have been some reports to suggest his contract will be terminated, while others have stated that Arsenal want to sell the player.
According to Chris Wheatley, speaking on Shots TV, it’s unclear what will happen to Pepe, but one thing is for sure, he won’t be playing for Arsenal anytime soon.

Pepe out of the reckoning
Wheatley shared what he knows about the attacker Mikel Arteta once called ‘phenomenal’.
“He was Arsenal’s record signing before this summer when they signed Declan Rice. It’s an interesting one to watch, will Nicolas Pepe join Besiktas for a small fee? Will his contract be terminated? Nothing is certain, but I don’t think he’ll be playing for the club anytime soon,” Wheatley said.

Terrible signing
The fact that Pepe is so firmly out of the Arsenal reckoning just four years after moving to the Emirates in a £72m deal just goes to show how poor of a signing he was.
That amount of money for a player Arsenal genuinely have no use for just a few years later is inexplicable, and, in all honesty, it’s hard to imagine the Gunners making that same sort of mistake these days.
Arsenal’s recruitment has improved so much since then after the arrivals of Mikel Arteta and Edu, and it’s genuinely hard to imagine Arsenal making such a big-money mistake these days.
Sadly, Pepe may go down in history as one of Arsenal’s worst signings ever.
