I asked AI to predict West Ham’s Premier League finish this season and the answer might surprise you

West Ham have endured a nightmare start to the new season and the misery shows no sign of letting up.

Graham Potter was sacked after just five Premier League games and Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed in his place, tasked with keeping the club out of the relegation zone.

Nuno’s reign got off to a steady start with a 1-1 draw at Everton, before his side were brushed aside by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

Dropping into the Championship now looks a real possibility – a far cry from their Conference League success under David Moyes – and they urgently need more points after the international break.

So, we asked ChatGPT for a rough prediction on where the Hammers could end up.

ChatGPT predicts West Ham to avoid relegation

There is no doubt that Nuno has a big task on his hands, but he has shown time and again that he can coach a team to success in the Premier League.

His Wolves side were superb to watch as they secured back-to-back seventh-placed finishes, while Nottingham Forest were flying high on his watch last season, securing European football.

However, the West Ham job is an entirely different prospect, and as such, AI has tipped them to finish near the bottom reaches of the table.

ChatGPT does not believe, though, that they will be relegated; instead, it predicted they will finish in 15th.

Explaining its reasoning, it argued:

Hammers supporters would certainly settle for that result, having won just one of their first seven matches, ironically against Nuno’s Forest at the City Ground in August.

Nuno Espirito Santo on his start at West Ham

New boss Nuno praised the efforts of his players after West Ham’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal, but is relieved with the timing of the international break.

“We’ve had two tough games away from home against very good teams,” he told the BBC.

“Now is the moment to analyse but with all the changes that have been happening, I feel the players are responding and trying and that pleases me the most.

“The international break will be important for all of us, especially for the players to be calm.

“There have been many changes and many noises around us. This is our priority – that we know each other as a group because it is basically our unity and fight for each other [that we need].”
