The World Cup has offered a number of players the ultimate platform to showcase their talents.

All of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool, will be using the tournament to further scout their top transfer targets.

Dutch journalist Hans Kraay Jr. spoke to ESPN NL, via Voetbal Primeur, addressed one of Liverpool’s targets in particular.

Kraay Jr. now believes that Liverpool target Cody Gakpo will definitely leave PSV Eindhoven.

The 23-year-old has been one of Europe’s most in-form players this season.

He has 21 goal contributions from 14 league appearances in the Netherlands, and has already scored twice at the World Cup.

He’s attracted plenty of interest from Premier League sides, with Leeds and Southampton particularly keen to sign him in the summer.

However, a report from The Athletic suggests Gakpo isn’t keen on a move to Elland Road anymore with bigger clubs circling.

Kraay Jr. believes Gakpo will definitely be playing in the Premier League soon when he leaves PSV.

Liverpool face competition from Manchester United to sign Gakpo in January, with the forward’s £40m price tag unlikely to be an issue for either team.

Gakpo will leave PSV Eindhoven

Speaking about the exciting forward, Kraay Jr. said: “Gakpo is gone. PSV is not going to keep him, and can no longer keep him,” Kraay Jr. said.

“Gakpo will soon play in the Premier League. The chance that it will be Manchester United is now a lot bigger, because Cristiano Ronaldo is gone.

“They have even more money available. At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so is Jürgen Klopp. Yes, Gakpo is gone.”

The Netherlands are all-but-through to the knockout stages of the World Cup unless Qatar can spring a massive upset.

Gakpo has become a key player for Louis van Gaal, given his squad’s lack of quality in the centre-forward positions.

Liverpool have always heavily relied on goals from their wide players and Gakpo would certainly suit that role.

It will be interesting to see where Gakpo ends up when he does eventually leave PSV.

If Klopp’s side can fight off Manchester United for his signature, it would be a massive coup for the club.
