Andrea Radrizzani confirms Leeds are going to try and sign player who 'has everything' after sealing Dieng
Leeds United majority owner Andrea Radrizzani says the club will try and sign Cody Gakpo before the deadline.
It was reported earlier on deadline day that PSV Eindhoven were unwilling to sell Gakpo amid interest from Leeds and Southampton.
Victor Orta flew out to Eindhoven to try and get the deal done but it was claimed that he would come back empty handed.
Leeds have since moved onto the signing of Bamba Dieng from Marseille, who looks set to take Dan James’ spot in the squad at Elland Road.
Radrizzani says Leeds will keep trying to sign Gakpo
And it might have been expected that would be the end of Leeds’ transfer business amid an impressive start to the season.
But Radrizzani has said on Twitter in a reply to a fan that he still wants to get Gakpo through the door as well as Dieng on deadline day.
That would be a huge show of ambition but it remains to be seen how they go about getting PSV to change their reported stance from this morning.
Mikel Arteta is apparently a huge fan of Gakpo and Arsenal have been linked in their efforts to bring fresh firepower to north London.
They are now looking more at a central midfielder rather than a wideman, and it seems Leeds are determined to be at the front of the queue for Gakpo.
Dutch pundit Theo Janssen has showered him with high praise, saying: “That boy has everything. Nice ball feeling, a good pass, dribbles and is strong between the lines.”
