'He wasn't training': 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur man wasn't in team training yesterday ahead of PL opener - journalist

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma is an injury doubt for the club’s Premier League opener this weekend and journalist Michael Bridge has said the player wasn’t in team training yesterday.

Football.London reported yesterday that Bissouma could miss the club’s game against Southampton tomorrow after suffering a slight issue with his hamstring.

And now the journalist has told the Last Word on Spurs podcast that the 25-year-old was only in the gym yesterday, rather than in team training.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte did not rule out the Mali international during his recent press conference and suggested the midfielder could still play tomorrow, but the latest update doesn’t appear particularly promising for his starting chances.

Bissouma completed a switch to North London earlier in the window from Brighton and will be eager to be available for his new club’s Premier League opener.

Bissouma wasn’t in training yesterday

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs, Bridge revealed he was at Hotspur Way yesterday and noticed Bissouma wasn’t training with the team

“I saw Bissouma in the gym earlier, but he’s not been ruled out though,” he said.

“He wasn’t training but he’s not been ruled out. The only two who are definitely out is Richarlison, who’s banned, and Skipp.”

Oliver Skipp suffered an injury in training recently which left his teammates shaken and has ruled him out of the first two to three weeks of the season.

That leaves Conte with just three possible first-team options for the central midfield role in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Bissouma, if he is available.

The former Brighton man started Spurs’ final pre-season game against Roma last weekend as he got the nod over Bentancur.

Bissouma was substituted at half-time for the Uruguayan, so it looked to be a battle between the pair for a starting spot next to Hojbjerg.

But as Bissouma looks to be a doubt for tomorrow’s game and didn’t even train yesterday, Bentancur will surely get the nod from Conte

The Italian will be hoping the Mali midfielder makes it back in time to give him more options in central midfield.

Conte is currently without Skipp and if Bissouma doesn’t recover in time, he will only have youngster Pape Matar Sarr available as another central midfield option.
