New Everton signing Amadou Onana has named the one member of the squad he spoke to before joining the club.
Onana joined Everton from Lille for £33m, with Frank Lampard’s side beating West Ham to his signature.
In his first interview as an Everton player, Amadou Onana was asked if he knew any of the players already in the squad, to which he replied: “I don’t know many of them, but I’ve been chatting to Niels (Nkounkou) before coming, and he told me great things about the club, so yeah that helped a bit.”

Not only will Everton fans be pleased to hear how excited Onana is to be heading to Goodison Park, but Nkounkou’s positive feelings towards the club will be encouraging.
Onana has already been compared to Paul Pogba in terms of style of play, and could be a fantastic partner in the centre of midfileld for Abdoulaye Doucoure or Alex Iwobi, who both started their game against Chelsea on Saturday in the middle of the park.
Onana spoke to Nkounkou before joining Everton
Since joining Everton in 2020 from Marseille, the 21-year-old Nkounkou has only made a handful of appearances on Merseyside.
The left-back spent last season on loan at Standard Liege, making 23 appearances, however he didn’t make the bench for Saturday’s opening Premier League encounter against Chelsea despite being back at the club.

Everton fans will be hoping he can help Onana settle in quickly, as they will be desperate for the Belgian international to be ready to play as quickly as possible.
The Toffees endured a tough season last year, narrowly avoiding relegation, and the pressure will be on Everton’s new signings, including Onana, Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil, to turn those fortunes around.
