‘He isn’t scared’: Arsenal reportedly want to sign ‘exceptional’ attacker who Wenger says is a superb creator

Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for Real Madrid star Eden Hazard – a player Arsene Wenger once hailed as an ‘exceptional’ creator.

Mikel Arteta is seemingly prioritising a move for Mykhaylo Mudryk at this moment in time as the Gunners aim to bolster their attacking options.

The Emirates Stadium has also been touted as a possible destination for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, with the Portuguese star looking set to leave the Spanish capital.

But Arsenal have been linked with a more surprising move for another player based in Madrid today in Eden Hazard.

Media Foot claims the Gunners have already made contact with Real Madrid over a potential January switch and their former boss is a massive admirer of the player.

Wenger on Hazard

Hazard has not enjoyed the best of times at Los Blancos after making a big-money switch from Chelsea back in 2019.

The Belgian winger has struggled with persistent injuries and failed to nail down a starting place in Spain.

But just months after he moved to the La Liga giants, Wenger was full of praise for his creative qualities.

“He will be the answer but not for [replacing] Ronaldo, that is for sure,’ Wenger told beIN SPORTS back in October 2019.

“Eden Hazard is an exceptional player to create chances, to sometimes finish when it’s demanded in big games he can do that, because he can take that responsibility. He isn’t scared of anybody.

“I don’t think at the moment in Madrid they have seen the real Eden Hazard, you know? He doesn’t look as sharp physically as he can be and that’s why I believe that they will discover the real Hazard.

“But he will not score 50 goals per year because that’s not the way he plays football. But he will provide chances and be creative.

“They need another goal scorer in Madrid with Karim Benzema, because Benzema is as well 32. If he has somebody else, younger, around him who can score goals, this trio can work very well.” as quoted by The Metro.

Hazard’s notable decline has been partly down to persistent injuries but he has underperformed massively in La Liga.

The 32-year-old was once ‘unplayable’ in the Premier League but his days playing at the very top level seem to be numbered.

This kind of signing would make no sense for Arsenal, especially as Arteta is currently building an exciting young side.
