Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Gabriel Martinelli will become a superstar if Mikel Arteta is patient with him in the coming months.

The young Brazilian became an instant fan favourite when he joined Arsenal from Ituano in 2019. He took the English game by storm in his very first season, but injuries have been really cruel on him since.

Since December 2019, Martinelli has missed 38 games in all competitions. To add to that, Arteta has been extremely cautious with him, which has limited his game time.

Martinelli is now the first-choice at Arsenal and he has been really good. Wright has been really impressed and he believes that the Brazilian has everything in his game to become a superstar in the coming years.

Ian Wright: Gabriel Martinelli is going to be a superstar

The legendary Englishman told ESPN Brazil’s Joao Castelo-Branco: “He’s (Martinelli) the kind of player that is very aggressive when he’s running, when he’s pressing. He loves to finish, loves to shoot.

“I think he has been very unfortunate with injuries. If he gets the time and patience and a run in the team, he’s going to be a superstar. He has got everything. The only thing that has curtailed him is the injuries.

“When I watch him, he’s got everything that you need. He’s somebody that I’ve got a lot of faith in because he has got everything to be a top player.”

Wright’s right, Martinelli has all the qualities to become a top player in the very near future.

The Brazilian has made the left-wing spot his own after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was forced out, and he has been brilliant. He won December’s PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month award for scoring thrice and performing brilliantly to end the year in style.

The only thing Arsenal fans will be hoping is that Martinelli stays free of injuries. If he does, he can have the same kind of impact as Bukayo Saka and that will push the Gunners a lot higher in the table than they currently are.
