Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed in a video on his YouTube channel that he has heard that the performance from Harry Winks in Tottenham Hotspur’s draw with Liverpool was the proof Antonio Conte needed having held the belief that there is something about the midfielder he can work with.
Winks was one of those who came into the starting lineup for the clash with the Reds. The game saw the 25-year-old make only his third Premier League start of the campaign.

Previously, there had been speculation about Winks’ future in North London. There had been some ominous signs under Conte’s predecessor Nuno Espírito Santo. And reports suggested that Newcastle were eyeing the England international ahead of the January transfer window.
Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano claimed shortly after Conte’s appointment that Winks was incredibly excited about working with the Italian after a handful of training sessions. And it seems that the feeling is mutual.

Winks shone against Liverpool. He was superb in the middle of the park as Spurs secured a valuable point in their push for a top four spot.
And Gold suggested that the display has convinced Conte that Winks should go nowhere in January.
“I’m hearing that this performance was the proof that Conte [needed],” he told his YouTube channel. “He felt that there’s something about Winks that he can get more out of him. And I think this performance essentially rubber-stamped that for him.”
Winks to be Tottenham’s surprise-package under Conte?
There may be groans about Conte’s stance on Winks. His development had stagnated in more recent years. And it did appear that he needed to secure a move away.
However, Conte has an amazing track record working with some less popular players. Of course, the best example perhaps is Victor Moses, who became a title-winning wing-back at Chelsea.
Winks has previously shown that he can step up on the big stages. And it could be amazing for Tottenham if Conte gets him back on track.
