Fabrizio Romano has said on The Here We Go Podcast that he has been told that Harry Winks is now loving life at Tottenham Hotspur following the appointment of Antonio Conte in North London.

Winks was one of the players who would have surely welcomed the change in the dug-out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He did not feature once in any of Nuno Espirito Santo’s last six Premier League games in charge.

And after a poor display in the Europa Conference League defeat to Vitesse, it appeared that it was going to be a long way back for the 25-year-old at Spurs.

It was suggested over the weekend that Newcastle may look at a January move for the England international.

But with Oliver Skipp suspended for Conte’s first home game in the Premier League, Winks received a massive opportunity, starting Sunday’s clash with Leeds United.

It proved to be an eventful time for the midfielder. After a poor first-half display, Winks definitely grew into the game. And he certainly produced a performance that hinted that he could have a role to play under Conte in the months to come.

Following the game, Romano suggested that Winks is a lot more optimistic about his situation now that Conte is at the club.

“It is easy to mention top players like Reguilon, Kane. But for example, Winks is a player that now is loving his Tottenham life with Antonio Conte I’m told. And many others are super excited with Conte as a manager,” he told The Here We Go Podcast.

Winks definitely a contender to be Tottenham surprise package under Conte

Conte always seems to spring a surprise by getting a tune out of a player within his squad who had previously been written off. Victor Moses is perhaps the best example from his time at Chelsea.

Winks was always a contender for that honour. He has previously looked an outstanding midfielder at the highest level. And he certainly boasts the quality to step up from where he had been of late.

He has a lot more to prove after initially struggling against Leeds. And plenty of fans will be hoping that Skipp makes an immediate return to the side.

But Winks has definitely given himself a chance of securing a lifeline in his Tottenham career.
