With the January transfer window already gathering pace, Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou are wasting no time targeting central defenders.
Jean-Clair Todibo looked to be the leading candidate for Spurs for a while, only for that deal to go quiet.

But given Tottenham and Postecoglou are so keen to see a central defender arrive in January, the pursuit has not relented.
And as a result, it now seems that Spurs are coming very close to signing Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.
The 21-year-old looks a fine prospect, a player handed his debut by Andrea Pirlo when back at Juventus.
And journalist Alex Crook has now shared the latest scoop on Tottenham’s confidence of achieving a deal.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Crook said Spurs staff are now starting to feel quite optimistic that Dragusin will sign.
Crook said: “The player they are getting closer to I understand is Radu Dragusin at Genoa.
“A Romanian centre-back, I think at the moment there’s a little bit of a gap in valuation between what Spurs want to pay and the £25m Genoa are looking for.
“But, there’s optimism I think at Tottenham that they can get that deal done and they can get it done quickly because they themselves are missing quite a few key players including both of their first-choice centre-backs.”
Tottenham staff confident defender Radu Dragusin will sign for club in January
As Crook alludes to, injuries to both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have really hastened the need to step up recruitment efforts.
Spurs have still performed admirably under Postecoglou despite all of the players they’ve been missing.

But perhaps the form of Son Heung-min has helped keep the pressure off of the back line, a player who will now be missing whilst at the Asian Cup.
Incidentally, Son has named three players he wants to score more goals whilst he’s away in Qatar.
Similarly, Son would surely be happy if Tottenham managed to sign a defender of Dragusin’s class in January.
There’s a big opportunity at hand for Spurs, and Crook’s update should bode well for some encouraging first steps in this window.
However, it now seems as if Tottenham will be disappointed in their pursuit of a £45m midfield target.
