Andrea Pirlo has already pointed out one area of Tottenham target Radu Dragusin’s game he needs to improve

With Radu Dragusin now looking increasingly close to joining Tottenham Hotspur, Andrea Pirlo’s past comments on the defender have come to light.

Signing a centre-back has long been a priority for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou, who looked short even when Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were available.

And with the duo now injured, Spurs’ need for an addition has only intensified.

However, with it now reported that Tottenham are just £10m away from a breakthrough with Dragusin’s deal, the side could be in luck.

That being said, it’s now particularly interesting to revisit some comments from his former boss Andrea Pirlo.

Shared by football.london, Pirlo was managing Juventus when Dragusin made his debut in the Serie A at 19-years-old.

At the time, his manager was convinced that Dragusin had the physical attributes needed for the top level, but still needed to develop his game elsewhere.

Pirlo said: “He’s physically very strong. He’s very young and must develop on a technical level, but he will have time to do it, training every day with great champions.”

Of course, two years later and it seems as if the Romanian international has now made that progress with Genoa.

Now 21-years-old, Dragusin appears to have taken his game to the next step.

Amassing 39 appearances in the Serie A, and 38 in the Serie B, Dragusin has developed the technical attributes to impress Ange Postecoglou.

If Tottenham do sign the centre-back there’s certainly no doubt that his new manager will believe that he can now play an expansive game.

Eric Dier seemingly can’t command a chance as a starter owing to his style of passing and ball-progression at the back.

Therefore, Tottenham must be convinced that Dragusin has used his last few years productively to allay Pirlo’s previous concerns.

And although a deal for the centre-back is starting to look very promising, one £45m midfielder isn’t so interested in a move to North London
