Gary Lineker has shared his verdict on if he would like to see Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe replace Gareth Southgate for England.
The Toon coach has been strongly tipped to take over from Southgate for the Three Lions, with the 53-year-old manager this week announcing that he will step down from his position with the national team after another Euros final defeat.
With the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino also being thrown around as potential options for England, it’s clear that the FA want to go big in their next appointment, with Southgate laying down the foundations for the Three Lions to flourish in the years to come,
And Lineker has now revealed if he thinks Howe would be suitable for the job.

Howe tipped to flourish at England if he left Newcastle
Speaking on the Rest is Football, the England legend gave his approval of Howe becoming manager of the Three Lions, with Lineker noting that the Newcastle manager’s style of football could suit what supporters are looking for in the national team.
Howe has been influential in Newcastle’s return to the top of English football, with the Magpies playing an exciting brand of football that has given the St. James’ Park side a huge future in the Premier League and in Europe.
And for Lineker, Howe could be the man to take on the role of England manager, with the former AFC Bournemouth man seemingly perfect for the job if approached by the FA in the coming weeks.
Linker said on Howe potentially becoming England manager: “I would be more than comfortable with Eddie Howe. His kind of football is attacking, it’s forward thinking, he plays the high press a lot of the time.”

Howe could be England’s dream successor for Southgate
As Lineker mentions, Howe’s brand of football would be a natural evolution from what England fans have seen under Southgate in the last eight years, with the Newcastle manager known for his attractive, attacking style.
And for the Three Lions, Howe could tick all the right boxes in what England want from a successor in Southgate, especially with this current generation arguably the most exciting the Three Lions have had in some decades.
Indeed, Howe has the potential to take England further than Southgate ever took the Three Lions, and the Newcastle man could jump at the chance to take over if the FA were to make a formal offer for the Toon manager.
