Liverpool talent Rio Ngumoha has dazzled fans this season, becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer in the club’s history.

Chelsea fans have rued Rio Ngumoha’s impact at Liverpool this season, with the teenager hitting the headlines after a dramatic winner against Newcastle United in August.

The 17-year-old left the Blues for Liverpool in 2024 and became the youngest scorer in Reds history with his winner at Newcastle.

That record had stood for nearly eight years, though the previous holder failed to really kick on from his history-making moment at Liverpool.

Former Liverpool record-breaker Ben Woodburn now in League Two

Ben Woodburn set a new record for Liverpool back in 2016, becoming Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer at just 17 years and 45 days.

Woodburn scored in an EFL Cup quarter-final win over Leeds United, firing him in front of the Kop to make history.

Woodburn eclipsed Michael Owen’s record by just 98 days, but his record was broken after Ngumoha scored against Newcastle in August.

So, just where is Woodburn now, some nine years since his record-breaking night at Anfield?

Now 25, Woodburn is playing in League Two with Salford City, having joined the club from Preston North End in 2024.

Woodburn bagged three goals and seven assists for Salford City last season and has already chipped in with two goals and one assist this term.

Woodburn is a regular starter under Liverpudlian Karl Robinson, and while his career hasn’t quite hit the heights many expected, he could play his part in something very special.

Ben Woodburn chasing promotion under David Beckham and Gary Neville

Salford have new energy behind them this season, having been taken over by David Beckham and Gary Neville earlier in 2025.

Beckham and Neville have joined forces with an American consortium and are looking to take the club forward.

Promotion is the goal this season, with Beckham and Neville hoping to secure a place in the Championship inside five years.

The campaign has started well; Salford sit second in the League Two table with 19 points from nine games, just two points shy of league leaders Gillingham.

Beckham and Neville would love to win promotion to League One this season, and while Liverpool fans certainly won’t be cheering on the former United duo, Woodburn could play a key role in any success for them this season.
