Rio Ngumoha will have the opportunity to break multiple Liverpool records if he remains involved in the first team this season.
The 17-year-old appears to have new opportunities to break numerous records ahead of each match at Anfield.
Ngumoha became the fourth youngest goalscorer in Premier League history this year when he scored the match-winner at St James’ Park in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United.
He then became the youngest player in the club’s history to feature in the Champions League following his 16-minute cameo at Anfield against Atletico Madrid.
And now the forward stands to break yet another record in the Carabao Cup, as he could become the Reds’ youngest ever goalscorer in the competition; however, only a few supporters will remember the player who currently holds the accolade.
Rio Ngumoha could break another Ben Woodburn record at Liverpool
Ben Woodburn was 17 years and five days old when he scored what would prove to be the only goal of his Liverpool career during a 2-0 win against Leeds United in 2016.
The former Wales international in fact became the Reds’ youngest ever goalscorer in all competitions overtaking Michael Owen, a record recently beaten by Ngumoha.
Woodburn was tipped for a bright future at Anfield but never kicked-on from his first goal and now plies his trade with League Two outfit Salford City after a two-year spell with Championship side Preston North End.

Although it did not work out for him on Merseyside, Woodburn was clearly a beloved figure at Liverpool and now what remains of his legacy at the club could be replaced when the Reds host Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Ngumoha couldn’t break Robbie Fowler’s record on Saturday as the youngster was not called upon off the bench during the Merseyside derby, but he is in line to get his first start of the season in the cup.
While Woodburn is starting to showcase his talent at 25, he contributed three goals and seven assists as Salford narrowly missed out on a playoff berth last season. He already has two goals and one assist in nine outings this year with Salford only two points behind league leaders Gillingham.
Rio Ngumoha should start for Liverpool vs Southampton
Slot developed a reputation for naming the same starting line-up consistently last season, but this will certainly not be the case this year.
The Reds’ near £450 million summer spending spree has left the Dutchman with a significantly stronger squad to compete across all competitions.
And it appears the boss plans to name a well-changed starting line-up as he already revealed several first team players will be rested for Tuesday’s clash in his post-match press conference following the Merseyside derby.
“I can tell you now you won’t be seeing them on Tuesday. If that’s any help for Southampton, then they will know.”
