'Final few weeks': If Arsenal sign £30m star it's going to be right at end of the transfer window - journalist

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor believes Arsenal’s might still do a deal for Youri Tielemans at the end of the transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a move for the Leicester City midfielder all summer.

However, in his update, Taylor has told his personal Youtube channel that Arsenal interest in Tielemans has ‘cooled’, but a late move for the playmaker in the final few weeks of the window could still be possible.

“My understanding is of the situation is that was when Arsenal signed Fabio Vieira, I was told that Arsenal’s interest in Tielemans had cooled, he’s a name that remains strongly admired by the Arsenal hierarchy, but at the moment they’re not actively pursuing him as a target,” he said.

“That’s not to say it couldn’t happen in the final few weeks of the window.

“An important point is his Leicester contract, he’s only got a year left, so realistically if an offer arrives, they would have to consider that, particularly given they haven’t spent anything this summer.

“I think it’s a relatively cheap deal to do, an offer of around £25m-£30m could seal it.

“They (Leicester) can’t afford to lose him on a free transfer.”

Arsenal deal for Tielemans could happen right at the end of the window

There are several factors that could mean this deal goes right down to the wire for Arsenal and Leicester.

Tielemans is one of a number of key Leicester players being linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are both being heavily targeted by Newcastle United, while Chelsea are reportedly preparing a world record bid for Wesley Fofana.

It would be impossible for Leicester to sanction the sale of all four of these players, even if it gave them a significant boost in funds to improve their squad.

With Tielemans’ contract running out first out of the four players mentioned, Leicester would be most likely to sanction the Belgian’s departure if the right offer came in.

And the longer Arsenal wait to make that bid, the more desperate Leicester may be to avoid the prospect of clubs approaching Tielemans for free in January.

Vieira could benefit if Tielemans doesn’t arrive

It was also an interesting point from Taylor that the signing of Tielemans was linked with the arrival of Portuguese youngster Fabio Vieira.

Vieira is a more attacking midfielder than Tielemans, but has played in a deeper midfield role in the past.

With Mikel Arteta making Martin Odegaard club captain this summer, Vieira may have to adapt his game to play in a different role in order to play first team minutes.

The signing of Tielemans would push Vieira another rung down the pecking order, which could affect his development at the club, and would make sense as to why Arsenal may now be slightly hesitant.
