Report: Leicester value Newcastle target Harvey Barnes at £60 million

Newcastle United face having to pay £60 million for another of their summer transfer targets, with The Times reporting that that is also the amount Leicester City value Harvey Barnes at.

It does appear that the Magpies are stepping up their business. They have already made two offers for James Maddison following his outstanding year in the Premier League last season.

However, they are yet to have any luck. And reports recently suggested that £60 million may be needed to prise the England international away from the King Power Stadium.

It remains to be seen how close Newcastle are willing to go to that amount. But it does seem that turning to other targets will not provide them with much respite.

Maddison is not the only Leicester player the Magpies want. Reports last month claimed that Newcastle were also keen on Barnes.

Like Maddison, Barnes was exceptional last season. And he would arguably be a hugely exciting signing for Eddie Howe’s men.

However, The Times reports that Leicester also want £60 million for Barnes. It is not clear whether the Magpies would be willing to meet those demands either.

Maddison has become something of a talisman for Leicester. With that, Barnes’ success has gone somewhat under the radar. In total, he has 46 goal involvements in 112 Premier League games for the club.

Jurgen Klopp claimed that he is an ‘unbelievable‘ player. So he could definitely prove to be worth the outlay should Newcastle make a move this summer.

It will be interesting to see whether they turn their attention to Barnes should their pursuit of Maddison come to nothing.
