Fabrizio Romano reveals stunning update regarding Crystal Palace's chase of Lucien Favre

Lucien Favre has decided to turn down Crystal Palace, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It is being reported that the former Switzerland international has concerns over the limited transfer budget.

The news comes just a few days after the former Borussia Dortmund manager held positive talks with Steve Parish. Favre was reportedly left impressed by the Eagles’ plans moving forward.

However, it seems as though there has been a swift u-turn by the 63-year-old, who will not be joining the club.

It follows on from a break down in talks with Nuno Espirito Santo after his demands.

TBR View: Crystal Palace entering dangerous territory amid Favre reports

Crystal Palace are entering dangerous territory amid reports that Favre is has turned down the role.

Favre is the second manager with whom talks have broken down at the 11th hour. A similar situation occurred with Nuno, who was on the cusp of taking the role.

However, the club have shown all summer long that they have the ambition to attract the best of coaches.

Nuno and then Favre were left impressed by the club following talks. It’s a sign that the south London outfit is doing its best to attract the highest calibre of manager.

However, it seems that the financial power isn’t there to carry the club over the line in negotiations.

The Selhurst Park outfit announced that they lost £30m over the two seasons affected by the pandemic. Whilst it’s not a lot of money, Palace have hardly been free-spenders in the market.

Palace’s highest transfer fee ever was £28m, paid for Christian Benteke back in 2016.

Where does Parish go from here? Two managers have come and gone after they looked certain to take the role.

Palace look likely to start pre-season without a manager, entering dangerous territory ahead of next season.
