Fabrizio Romano shares what Liverpool plan to do with Giorgi Mamardashvili

Liverpool have had a fairly quiet transfer window so far, but it looks as though it won’t be long before they get their first summer signing over the line.

The Reds are, to date, the only Premier League club yet to sign anyone this summer. And with just over two weeks until deadline day, some fans are getting concerned.

Liverpool tried to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi earlier this month, but he has since snubbed a move to Anfield in favour of staying put.

Now, the Reds are reportedly in talks over Valencia and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, and talks seem to be on the right track.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest involving Liverpool’s pursuit of the 23-year-old stopper.

Liverpool set to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili and loan him to Bournemouth

Romano reported earlier on Wednesday that Liverpool had agreed personal terms with Mamardashvili and that Bournemouth were “open to signing him”.

The transfer insider has now reported that the Reds’ potential plan for the Georgian is “already clear”, namely that he’d link up with the Cherries for the 2024/25 campaign.

Mamardashvili would then formally join Liverpool from 2025 after having spent a season on the south coast.

“Giorgi already accepted Liverpool plan and contract terms,” continued Romano. “Up to the clubs.”

Liverpool planning for the long-term but questions being asked about club priorities

Normally, this kind of signing would be unanimously welcomed.

Liverpool have identified a player for the long-term and are in process of signing him, loaning him out to a fellow Premier League side and then getting an improved player back in 2025.

Mamardashvili is a quality player who was branded as ‘outstanding’ by Ange Postecoglou during ITV’s coverage of Georgia vs Portugal (26 June) at Euro 2024.

However, with the Reds having failed to make a single signing this summer, questions are being asked about the club’s priorities in the market.

Liverpool have a strong squad as it is, but additions are desperately needed in certain areas, like defensive midfield and centre-back, and those should be prioritised.

Of course it may all work out well in the end, but as it stands, the feeling among some Liverpool fans on social media is that the Reds aren’t prioritising the right targets at present.
